mixing coolant?
I posted this in another thread, but didn't know if anyone would go through 3 pages of posts to find it. I need to add antifreeze to my truck which now has the yellow coolant in it. I was gonna get some Shell ELC coolant but didn't know if it would mix or not. I know it won't with the green stuff. Thanks for the help.

I would flush the entire system with fresh water ..I believe there are drain points on the engine block also.. then add the ELC.

I figured that would be best. I'm not sure I have time to do it though. I'll have to see what I can get done. Thanks.

I didnt have an answer for you, but if you are going to do the flush.. Alot of the ten minute oil change places have the machine for it.

Personally I'd go to a place to have it flushed. I've personally (with other vehicles) had problems with getting air bubbles in he heater core because I flushed it myself.
But if you are going to flush it then I found this post while googling around for other things....

Oh, and I forgot to mention that to my knowledge (which is mechanically limitted but better then most) mixing coolants is not a good idea.

Don't mix it. Either top-off with some gold, or do the whole flush. You can get a jug of G-05 coolant (Gold stuff) at Autozone for like $12.

Agreed.
You won't hurt the truck, but you will be wasting your money. The ELC costs more than the gold.

Thanks for the replies. I'm just gonna get more of the gold stuff like whats in it. No one here carries the Shell ELC anyway.
