leaking carb?

<HR style="COLOR: #d1d1e1; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #d1d1e1" SIZE=1 itxtvisited="1"> <!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->
I noticed there is a small amount of gas sitting on top of my manifold....should I assume my carb needs a new gasket?

Carb probably needs rebuilt- it never has been.

Yes very good indication of bad gaskets. You dont want any of those gas puddles sitting on a hot manifold as this can cause fire! Head down to your local auto parts shop and get a rebuild kit, a manual and something to drink and go at it.

Napa has a rebuild kit in stock for $62...thought it'd be worse than that.

Good thing I set some sun tea out this morning on the back porch!

It takes more than a rebuild kit - you need heavy chemicals. You need the gallon can of Chem Dip and a couple cans of spray. Be careful with that stuff. Depending on what came in the rebuild kit, you might need a new base gasket, spacer-to-manifold gasket, and as always a fuel filter. $60 is actually really high for a rebuild kit, but that's around what my last kit from Napa cost. A couple years ago they only cost half that.

$60? Must be some kinda exotic carb!

My rebuild kit cost $30 from NAPA, and I bought it last month.

What kind of carb? Is the tag still there?

The reason your rebuild kit is so expensive is the fact that your carb is a holly... as soon as you see that name just plan on spending twice as much... I had a simmilar problem with the holly on my truck and after talking with a lot of old timers I just decided to for go the holly and installed a edelbrock, and never looked back... the only down side i have with the edelbrock is when I am off roading and i hit a hill some times the truck floods out...

also the rebuild kits for edelbrock carbs are about $25...

You're probably right garlindethfury.

I thought all the factory carbs back then were Holley's.

My dad got this truck new, and he gave it to me a few weeks ago- I wanna keep it original and stock as possible. I don't have the heart to swap carbs out! plus I don't have the cash...I'm a cheap *******! haha

yeah I am cheap as well... but when it comes to my truck or eating... my truck always wins... I have had it drilled into my skull since it was a kid... treat your truck nice and it will treat you nice... so i treat my truck as nice as possible...

I think you've started a thread or two on this carburetor before...

=================================

D5TE-EA = 1975/76 F150/F350, 390 V8 4v with automatic transmission, non-Calif emissions. From serial # W00001.

6A5 = assembled January 5, 1976.

=================================

The $60 price tag now makes sense.

=================================

The choke pulloff usually quit working at this point in its life. I haven't found an original choke pulloff that still holds vacuum. And I've tested over 20 of them!
