Turn Signal Problems

Have a 2003 Ranger. The rear turn signals are acting up if you turn either right or left on they both flash. Plus if while they're flashing you apply the brakes they both lock up. I found what I believe to be the turn signal module under the dash and it feels really hot. Any thoughts ?

The turn/stop/hazard lamp circuit runs from the fuse box, through a flasher relay (located in a relay box under the steering column), then through the multifunctuion switch ("MFS" or "stalk" located on the steering column) and then out to the lamps.

What you might be alluding to is the flasher relay, and that is a good place to start. I would suspect that or a bad MFS.

I am thinking that the lightbulb on one of the back lenses has shorted from the turn element to the brake element or to ground. Could even be the front, but I've had more experiences with the rears. with the 4 way flashers on, the bad bulb will flash weird or not at all.
