Also means that you have a leak in the system but if you never had to add to it could mean it's a small leak. If you have to keep adding refrigerant you should locate the leak and repair.
I have a couple of cans of refrigerant.....not sure where they came from, so I will try to recharge the sysytem. If it works, will run on that until Im out and buy the dye that you can put in to show you where the leak is coming from. Rep points given......always good to learn somthing new!!
Thanks again
Well, I found out why my truck wouldnt take the 134a. The hose I had was bad. I bought a new hose and filled with 134a. Now, I think it could take a little more, but have to buy another can. One other thing, the AC in the rear is quiet abit colder than the dash. Why would this be???

That happened with my X also. The blend door doesn't close all the way and you are getting some heat mixed with the front A/C. I am going to put a valve in my heater hoses so I can shut off the flow to the heater core....

This makes sence.....I have just the vent on the other day, and it seemed warmer than it should.....epecally since it was only in the upper 60s and low 70s.
I wonder how much of a pain it is to fix the problem......must be a pain if you are going to put in a shut off valve!

I bought a new hose that has a guage on it. I have the correct PSI in it now. It took one large can and one small can. I would go see how many oz the cans say, but it is pooring down rain and the cans are in the trash outside.
The back is cold as can be, but the front is not. When I put the small can in, the compressor clutch was kicking in and out, so I knew i needed more and went and got the large can that has the oil, conditioner, and the dye in it.
Just went over to wally-world and bought two cans of refrigerant, heres what happened:
I started the truck turned the A/C to Max and noticed my compressor wasn't spinning. After I got half way through the first can it kicked on for a second and quit, so I put two cans in and that seems to have done the trick. My A/C is already cool and getting cooler, so we'll see if I have a real problem with my A/C or if I was just out of refrigerant.....

Sounds like you were just out of refrigerant. You can by cans of refrigerant with leak dye. That way, you can locate a leak and fix it! Take a look and see if the stuff you bought has that....it will say right on the front of the bottle. If its not, next time buy that!

I definately plan on adding more refrigerant if things aren't back to normal. I already have to flush the power steering pump since I've been putting power steering fluid instead of transmission fluid... So I'll add that to the list of things to do...
don't bang your head to hard Toreador, I put windshield washer fluid in mine . Now that was a mess!
I never started it, but the fluid worked its way all the way to the pump. I had to disconnect the pump and blow the lines out.
Ok, now I don't feel so bad.....
I bought another can of refrigerant and it turns out I didn't need it. I ended up using it on my Dad's '03 Acura which was surprisingly low.
I drove home with the A/C on yesterday and the further I went, the colder it got. It's not "freeze your nads off" cold like it used to be, but it's much better than having hot air come through your A/C.
rb8484 how is your AC working, or did it cool off up north that you don't need right now as it did here in PA went for 90's to the nice 70 ish.
It has cooled off here....back to the 60's. My rear AC is ice cold......the front is between cold and cool. Must be the blend door not operating all the way. Gonna look more into is when I get a little more time
