I am back, and hve a couple more questions to ask. I just odered my Throttle Pedal from Desielsite, and thank to whoever gave me that site last saturday, it was about half from what the dealer was going to charge me for it. I only paid 175.00 and th dealer wanted almost 495.00 for the gas pedal.
Here is my first question now. My truck which is a 2000 F250 7.3 needs 4 gallons of oil right? and is the 15-40 DELEO from chevron good oil to use, my friend gve me 4 gllons of it yesterday. Now should I add an additive in it like lucus oil or someting. If so what should I add and can I get i al the local Napa store in California.
My second question is, when it comes to the transmission, I noticed that it hav a drain plug on it, but noticed that many people in this forum have problems when trying to undo it. I just bought te truck and it has 175000 an I am not sure on the history, So I kind of want to drain all the fluids so I know that everything is new. Also is there a plug on the Torque converter as well. Also what type of trasmission fuild do I need and how much.
My 3erd and last question for right now is why do some people take samples of there old and send it in to get tsted. I rememeber doing that when I worked on a farm, but I cannot remember why. Is it something I should do, if so, where do I get the info.
In case I missed you the first time, welcome to FTE! You already found the cost savings advantages to this site. Stick around and you will see how it can then be spent back into the truck
An oil change will cost about 15 quarts, so just a little shy of 4 gallons. I use Rotella but a lot of people use different brands, just DON'T use an oil additive because of the effects of the HPOP.
I have almost 305,000 miles on my '01 and have not had any problem with the tranny drain. I did put a Fumoto valve on for the engine oil since I change it so often.
I have yet to do the oil analysis, but will probably do that when I switch to synthetic, to see how the engine is performming and to try to catch any issues that may be coming up.
Welcome to FTE. Since you just got the truck, I'd recommend changing every fluid you can think of (including the ATF in the power steering reservoir). These motors will last a long time if properly taken care of. If you're truck has the green coolant, pick up some test strips and some additive for the coolant, since you'll likely need that.
As for the oil analysis, several people do that to either monitor how long they can go between oil changes if they're trying to extend the drain interval, or some do it to get an idea if there is any unusual wear or issues going on inside the motor. If you're thinking about getting an oil analysis, Blackstone Labs (a site sponsor) will send you a test kit for free if you go to their site and request it. (you do have to pay for the test though).
PaysonPSD thanks for the link on lucus oil. Very interesting, To the fact that I am going to change the oil in my Chevrolet tomorrow morning before I go to work. Kind of scarey if you ask me!
