...at least on mine. I did a front brake job recently and the dome lights stayed on draining the battery. After charging the RKE started working. I intentionally made mine fail today and, while at work I disconnected the battery. Upon reconnecting the RKE started working again. So, in conclusion as no RKE modules seem to be available I'm going to rig a switch to cut power to my RKE module to force a reset

I have similar issues with the RKE in my 99 van. But I don't see any bad solder joints and the connector itself seems tight to the PCB. The entire PCB and all components appear to have been dipped in some type of sealant, making any repair difficult because you have to get the sealant off to do any solder/desoldering. The OP's photos aren't showing anymore, so I wanted to ask if they could be reposted (yes I know this thread is ancient in internet forum terms). Still, I remain hopeful. :-)
The opening post is 11 years old so its not unusual the photos are no longer visible. The OP hasn't been active here since 2012.
As suggested in another reply on this same topic find a reputable RKE repair outfit to see what they might do to refurbish your existing RKE module. A visual inspection may or may not show what might need attention----sadly such checking doesn't reveal anything so obvious that its an easy DIY repair.
Just chiming in and resurrecting a 13 year-old thread to say my '96 E-150 has the same issue and I've likewise been trying in vain to find a solution or replacement. I removed the RKE and inspected the circuit board, but everything seems fine and firmly connected. I do know it's a connection issue because pressing and wiggling the wire ribbon will cause the locks to randomly lock and unlock, but I can't for the life of me figure out exactly where the issue is.
Here's hoping this reply revives the thread long enough for someone with an answer to see it.
Spo my 'Strayhound' van '98 E 150 I checked the capacitors on the circuit board and with the help of a capacitor checking device I found two weren't up to spec. I ordered replacements from the web, I forget where but dig this counterfeit merchandise goes right down to components! These worked for a few months then failed. Once I get remotivated I'll get some new capacitors from Digikey or Mouser and give it another shot.
