What kind of water head retard decided to make the filters shorter. They are smaller enough as so as it is, if anything they should be making them bigger. Guess I'll have to stock up on old ones if I can.
I just notice this yesterday when I picked up oil and filter from the local Walmart, they were sitting side by side and I was thinking WTF , part#'s were the same so I picked up the larger one.
I bet whoever makes them (Purolator?) found that they had two different filters that can use the same can to save some money.
Either that, or Ford needed a shorter version of the filter for a certain vehicle and changed the entire spec instead of coming up with a different part number.
I wonder if the Purolater Pure One filter was shortened also. If it remains the same length guess I be running those. Purty metallic blue is better than white anyway.
Went filter shopping. Wally world had new short 820s only Advance had two standards and some new short ones and Autozone had 5 standard ones. I compared a standard length 820s to the Purolater Pure One filters which are not blue anymore. They are mustard colored with gritty paint in a brown box. The Pure One filters are the same length as the new style 820s. Got 7 of the old style filters. The new short filters have an orange oval on the box that says "New size, sAme filter" or something like that.

Thanks for checking it all out. May have to go the NapaGold/Wix route.
Where's the by pass on the purolator pure one filter? Is it at the open end (bottom) or the closed end (top) of the filter? I think at the open end is better to prevent oil from washing over dirty media and carrying dirt back into the engine.
