4R100 slipping
Have a 98 navigator with 77000 miles trans won't engage in mornings when cold. Shifts fine after warm up. When you step down on gas it trys to go but slips after a couple starts and stops it takes off fine. Has had fluid and filter changes every 24000 miles. Only happens when outside temps are starting to get colder didn't do it all summer. thanks for your replys

Sounds like the thing is dying. This "morning sickness" is pretty common to Ford automatics on the way out. My trans guy says they last 75,000 to 175,000, so you are just in range. Get at least two opinions before spending any serious money.
