have a 1986 ford f-150 4x4 with the oriignal 351 winsor in it and i took the motor out and had it rebuild now i got it back in it and heres my trouble i bolted the starter on it and go to start it it sounds like the starter is clashing with the flywheel makes a god awhfull noise erking noise someone told me to put a starter shim on it i did that and it still makes the same noise what could it be ?????? anyne with any help be appricative
Did you remember to install the sheetmetal plate between the engine and the tranny?
Another cause, (and I have done this one) is the oil drain plug in the convertor is not lined up with the clearance hole in the flexplate. This is only if you have a automatic. If this happens, when you tighten the bolts to the torque convertor, you actually are bending the flexplate around the plug and it makes it wobble.
