Try looking in some of the vendors catalogs for bed pics, and/or individual pieces

Needhelp49, here's a similar one I'm assembling - for a '41 (it's a Mack Products bed). It's probably the same bed used for a '49. No instructions supplied with bed and none online that I found --- would be glad to try to answer any questions about my experience with the assembly.

I can't see your pic and don't know if you have an Express Bed or Pick-up Bed, but let me download what I have and hope it helps.
If you are working on your bed, I recommend you visit the folks at MAR-K at
MAR-K Classic Truck Parts made in Oklahoma City, USA
Shoot, maybe we can even get a few words from "MAR-K Mark."

kg if that tail gate was off with no floor it would be perfect. i need to know what the rear cross member looks like.
i was going to buy a new one but with the wife wanting a baby that went out the door.
i even draged the running boards out of the scrap pile and 7 hours later thay look great.
so i thought i can fix the bed to julie those help and it a reg bed

Hi again!
I think despite the raised panels on your bed sides, the rounded stake pockets and the different tailgate (yes the 51 and 52 was slightly different where th etab was located for chain locking)
I have pictures of my bed (51 Pick-up Box) when I primed it. I'll post a couple pics. If you need a specific view, let me know I may have a picture of a close up.
That back piece is just a rectangular tube it measures 1 3/4" x 3 7/8" x 49 1/2-3/4" outside....

Needhelp49 ... Julie's supplied some good stuff there w/ the pics and measurements. My bed is a bit earlier model but if you're rear sill is rounded at the bottom, this may give you some idea. The rear stake pockets and the rear sill fit flush with each other at the rear and must be welded along their seams. It requires that you notch out the side panel where it meets the rear sill and cut off the corresponding length of the flange on the rear stake pocket. Top photo shows where the stake pocket insert connects the rear sill and stake pocket (I plug welded it from the stake pocket and face of rear sill as well as at its top surface). Also, in the rear sill I welded in two short pieces of square tube (each is about one-third of the way in from each side) tying the front side of the sill to the back side) to keep it from bowing in the middle.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the great pictures - pictures are indeed worth a thousand words. These are just what I need to get me going. I apologize if this posted message doesn't get to the correct area but I'm new to the site & haven't quite figured how to navigate it yet. Thanks again, Dick.

I built my own rear sill piece on my bed. I went ahead and bought new stake pockets but fabbed my own lower sill. There's pics in this gallery;

I used 2x3 rectangular tubing saddled over some 2" round tubing

LOL...
My whole bed is a little unconventional and I'm not using a standard bed floor or sub floor. Keep in mind that the rear sill has the mounting points that attach the bed to the frame. I didn't use these but they wouldn't be hard to fabricate.
I also welded in some 1/4" steel pads inside the stake pocket so that I could drill and tap them for the tailgate hinges instead of having bolts all the way through the stake pockets (a 3/8" thick pad would have been better)
