First of all I am assuming I have a 302 because it is the only one I see that had EFI in 1985. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
With that said, I'm looking for some suggestions for an exhaust system. Currently still have the factory manifolds, they are rusted but I should be able to clean them off and paint them to save a little cash.
I have heard a lot about the Flowmaster super 44, but nothing directly related to this engine.
I'm looking for a nice deep tone, nothing over the top ear busting.
i use the thrush welded chambered mufflers on my 81 f150.sound just like flowmaster 44.but cheaper.i have them routed to exit infront of the rear tires, and they don't reverberate into the cab.my wife and i can hold a conversation, with out yelling.my 86 f250 i have chery bomb turbos, they are quiet at idle but roar when you stomp the go peddle.my old pontiac has bottle mufflers ,and is just plain obnoxious and loud .it all boils down to your preferences.
I have thought long and hard about this very thing. Here is what I have come up with.
Full-legnth headers into 2.5" pipe with high flow cats into an X-shaped crossover pipe. Then into a nice set of Flowmaster 50 series or MAC Flowpath mufflers and straight out the back with 3 or 3.5" polished, slash cut tips.
The crossover pipe smoothes out the sound and the X shape helps power and creates a more aggressive, throaty sound without that annoying "rap" sound that trucks can get.
