I'm trying to remove the heater box in my '91 f150 because I'm putting A/C in it out of my '90. I only found 3 bolts holding it, 2 inside, and one under the hood. Am I missing a few bolts somewhere? It doesn't even seem loose except on the inside at the bottom.
There's 2 more that are going to next to the fender on the firewall along the heater duct box. Those are a PITA to get to unless you take the fender off or long socket setup! Thats on a 87 to 89, not sure of a 91. I count a total of 6 on mine.
Look in my gallery under my name, I have photos of the cab with out the AC/ heater box. You will see how many holes and locations for the mounting. Some reason I can not post photos here still!
Fun isn't it? The bottom one is harder than the top as you have the inner fender to work around. The truck I stripped out for parts, that bottom bolt broke free in the plastic of the duct box. I had to pull the fender and inner fender off so I could get to it. Hopefully you will not have that headache to deal with. With the ac box off its a good time to fix any firewall issues ther.
When you are going to put it all back together, use some good weather stripping to reseal the box to firewall, DO NOT USE silicone sealant you you will never get it apart again. Also never-seze the bolts too.
