I HAVE A 1975 F250 WITH MODEL 24 DIVORCED TRANSFER CASE. THE PROBLEM IS WIN I BOUGHT THE TRUCK THERE WAS NO LINGAGE GOING TO THE CASE.COULD SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME THE PATTERN ON THE CASE A FAR AS THE TOP ROD COMING OUT OF THE TRANSFER CASE WHAT POSITION IS WHAT AND THE SAME AS FOR THE BOTTOM. ALSO WHY WONT THE BOTTEM ROD MOVE AT ALL NOW WIN IT USED TO MOVE FINe ? THE TRUCK IS STILL DRIVABILE AS LONG AS THE TOP ROD IS PULLED OUT ALL THE WAY OUT ... PLEASE ANY HELP.......
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 02-Nov-02 AT 09:52 PM (EST)]The shift pattern on a Dana 24 is:
4L
N
2H
4H
with 4H having the shift lever's handle pulled all of the way back. Since the lever pivots before actuating the t-case, the bar that goes across the shift rails has to be all of the way to the front for 4H. The two shift rails can move only in a certain sequence, as there are detents inside the t-case that act on the shift rails.
My opinion of the Dana 24 is that it is a tough unit - I have never seen one go bad. It is an all-gear unit - no chain inside to stretch.
Your 1975 should have had a NP205 originally - not a Dana 24.
