Well guys and gals, sent my Schaeffers test kit for my UOA three weeks ago and haven't heard a thing, nothing yet in the mail. I tried calling a regional rep thats down in Delaware and left a message and i'm hoping to here something. Anybody else have any simular problems?? I was thinking about the possibility that the USPS wouldn't like fluids being shipped with them but I went ahead and dropped it into the mailbox. I made sure it was sealed inside and out, what gives?? Thanks for the replies as always...
Mine from BS only took a little over a week. Lady at the post office didnt think twice about it. Not aware of the Shaeffers process but this will give ya a bump!
Maybe you can get call Jamie, Jeremy or Rich and they can look into it for you. Sorry it's taking so long, I know you were wanting to see your results ASAP!
Hey Tristan, figured with those problems back in the day(chemical-poisons) that they would be dumping anything that looked suspicious. It just crossed my mind. Cris, been awhile, hows the family?? Yes, I wait for them to chime in, Rich has a big move so I'll wait for him.. Really was looking foward to the results, running syn since 15,000.
I wouldnt blame them one bit for wondering. How is the Shaeffers packaged? I know with BS packaging I would never guess it was a liquid if I didnt read it or know!

I don't blame them either, It was just a thought, thats all. It comes with a test bottle then you put it in another sealed bottle, nice system. I don't see a problem at all. I even took added precautionary measure's and taped the outer bottle's lid just to make sure.
B-S kits consist of a small plastic bottle stuffed inside a small zip-lock baggie, then inside a second sealed bottle. I use clear packing tape to insure the outer lid can't be turned.
I fill the inner bottle completely so it won't make any noise when shaken.
When asked what's inside, I simply reply, "A specimen." Since it's addressed to a laboratory, they usually don't ask beyond that.
You can legitimately tell them it's not biohazard, too.

Pop
No zip-lock baggie in this test kit, just the inner bottle then the second sealed bottle Pop.. Update: Called a Regional rep down in De. yesterday and he called today and he's going to find out where it is. Said he'll let me know within the next day or so, flying out of town on business.
I sent my sample to Blackstone and had an Email response with a full printable version of my analysis attached in under 1 week from the day I mailed it parcel post. then they followed up with a nice hard copy in the mail!! GREAT FOLKS there at BLACKSTONE!!
It could be because the oil even a small sample might fall into this from the PO site. Don't know for sure my local PO has a large sign on this topic.
Granted there is probably NO risk on a oil sample double bottled. I think the pack should/might also contain a superadsorbant material that would soak up a few cc of oil.

Environmental Waste used engine oil or used batteries"
I believe the intent of the USPS notification is in regards to larger volumes of used engine oil being shipped for recycling purposes. On the other hand, "samples" are exempt from this "exception list".
One thing I have also done is to not just ship the sample bottle "as provided" by the testing company (be it Schaeffers, Blackstone, OilGuard, etc.). I have seen that if the bottle is packaged in a small box, there are no problems. The few times I have actually sent the Schaeffer bottle "as provided", I use heavy packaging tape and securely tape the entire lid circumference to the bottle as a demonstration of "responsible packaging practices", and those have also gone through the system, but do seem to take a little longer.
