np203; how much slack?
I have a 78 F250 400 c6 with np 203. It has an annoying clunk when going between drive and reverse, and also when decelerating and re- accelerating. I was thinking maybe rear-end slack or u-joint, but upon inspection I found that the slack was in the t-case, not the diff. There is at least one-third of a rev of play there. I know the 203's are chain driven, and chains sometimes have slack but should I be worried or is this normal? Is there a tensioner? The truck has 125000 miles and 4:10s. I got it a couple weeks ago and haven't got a manual yet (what am I waiting for?).It has a bug deflector on it that claims "TOUGHER than a rock". I am inclined to believe it. Thanks in advance.
