when me and my friend started working on the truck last night, we got it timed and then messed with the carb for a bit, but he wanted me to check my spark plugs so i looked at them, they looked good, but one broke on me when i was taking it off. going to buy new ones today, they were champions going to put motorcraft on them. But it still seems to spudder a bit, was wondering if it could have been a broken spark plug a long time ago. well any feed back would be great. O and again 1979 f150 4x4 with 300 I6 offy intake, 500 CFM eldebrock, and an rv cam.
Thanks
haven't replaced the plugs yet am going to tonight. I was just wondering if you guys thought it was the plugs or something different. My friend said a burnt valve, but how do you tell if you got one of them
I would say change your plugs tonite and then let us know if it works or still does what it was. Also explain a little better as far as a "sputter" and people will help as much as they can

Use a vacuum gauge to find out if you have a burnt valve...or two.
it is a new cap and rotor, and wire set, when using the vacume gauge what am i looking for will there not be any vacume at all or will it be really low.
also when it spudders it is like i lose all power just when i shift into forth gear, in 3rd and 2nd gear it really wants to go, i have had someone say that it could be 4th gear is out well it just started doing it when i put a new eldebrock 500 on had a 390 holley on before that and it didn't do it.
