High guys im a newbie to the site... I have always been a dodge guy but a couple nights ago my dad gave me a 1994 f-250 with a idi 7.3 turbo in it. Now when i drive this thing down the road it spits out all the tranny fluid (just like another guy on here I see was having the same problem). But my speedo is not working I was woundering where this thing is cuz I looked for a while last night and could not find the thing to save myself. Its not the prettiest truck in the world but it always has ran like a top and Id like to get it going for a toy for the sand dunes. any help would REALLY be helpful.
Bein' a Dodge guy you have to get used to these "little quirks" the Fords have.
On a serious note; once you get the bugs worked out of that truck you'll probably fall in love with it.
I can't explain it but there is something fun about tinkering with these trucks and making it work when it doesn't want to.
I have always had a plan to build a Dodge CrewCab with a 12V Cummins in it. The more I work on this truck the more I want to build a motor for it and play with it. The Dodge project keeps getting pushed into the future.
I origionally bought this truck to get me by while I built the Dodge but I haven't even started on it yet.
If I was smart I'd just build it and be done with it. The Cummins are so reliable I've virtually never HAD to work on my Dodge but I LIKE this truck and getting to know how it functions.
IT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe I've just been hanging around on this site too long.
I'll have had my '94 exactly a year on Monday and I have worked on it A LOT more in that year than the 12-13 years I've had my Dodge-Cummins but it has 3 times as many miles on it too.
I'm sure my Cummins will be as trouble-free at 372K as it is now but I'll bet the rest of the truck will have had about the same amount of problems. I may never know though as I find myself driving my freakin' Fords all of the time!
Unlike SOME people (starmilt I'm talking about you) I don't think the Ford or Dodge truck itself is that much better than the other. As soon as a Ford fan says the Dodge sucks in one certain way the Dodge fan will point out where the Ford is lacking in another. Unfortunately no one has made the perfect truck yet. Of course you and I KNOW that Dodge has come the closest!
I would say DON'T Drive IT until You get the tranny issues worked out. The E4OD tranny's are not cheap to repair. Usually it's simple electronic bugs that need to be worked out. Driving it in the limp mode for extended periods will cause damage to the tranny.
Check the speed sensor in the rear axle housing. Sometimes just cleaning it off can help it register properly. Then check the tranny for codes. I'm thinking the PO has been jerking around with things, trying to get the tranny to operate properly. Prolly has things worse than when they started.
There's plenty of good info here, and a lot of peeps will help get the bugs worked out. So be patient, and We'll have You on the road/dunes in no time.

Hey I have never said dodge are bad trucks I happen to really like the cummins. It's just that driving a dodge is like having an ugly girlfriend you don't want to be seen in public with either one. lol
I honestly would like to come across a dodge donor and put the motor in a ford, but I would probably go with a highboy though. I would love to have a 4bt in my bronco or a half ton .

So basically you like Dodges as long as you use the parts out of it that aren't Dodge parts in any way, shape or form. Right?
Sounds like you. LOL!
There's really no hope for you.
I may have caught on but you haven't. I hinted that you are somewhere around 90+ years old in another thread and you didn't even notice.
Yea I noticed just couldn't argue the point lol.
A kid I went to school had a ford 1/2 ton unibody with a 440 and pushbutton auto in it. It was interesting to say the least ran pretty good and the motor was painted purple for some reason.
It was the only ford I ever saw that laughed at you every time you touched the starter.
The gear reduction Chrysler starters do make a unique noise.
One they get their job done though nothing sounds sweeter.
My well built, but not wild, 440 through headers and glass packs sounds like war.
well replaced the sensor and it works like a champ..... the tranny still acts a little funny sometimes but its not spittin out fluid. Im gonna get some codes off the tranny and see whats up I just replaced all the return lines and o rings with a pensocola injector install kit that took care of the bad smell in the cab. Thanks guys! Im sure Ill have more questions sooner or later. And didnt mean to get a dodge and ford war started. lol

That's just me and starmilt pickin' on each other.
He thinks since he's on a Ford site he's always right. I know he probably has a Dodge for "real" use. His Fords are just lawn decorations.
hey nitrous dont worry, your turn will come... j/k, everyone here is pretty laid back and Very helpful, BUT once you meet Joe F350 you will never be able to think the same again
