Quick question about installing the rear 2 piece driveshafts. 2004 SD250 CC4x4 - the rear shaft thew a weight and has been out of balance since(even after getting re-balanced). Got a complete new 2 piece shaft including carrier. Does the new shaft have any type of alignment to it or can I unbolt the old one and put the new one in? - complete shaft from tanny to rear including carrier.
I think I understand what you are saying. The drive shaft is already together with the slip yoke and carrier(thank you Ford). I'll look at how the one is set up now.
If the old driveshaft is not properly timed, try putting it in time before replacing it with the new unit. An out-of-time driveline can cause a vibration like you report.
Not to hijack this thread, but aloong the same lines...
When I orignally got my 6" lift on my truck a couple months ago, the ******** forgot to put a carrier drop bracket on my driveshaft and it was clunking around pretty good for a few days befoore they realized it and called me to fix it.
Ever since then I feel like I did damage to either my driveshaft or transmission because when there is either a heavy load in the bed or I am pulling a trailer a lot of time it will clunk and stutter and actually just die.
Any thoughts if I did damage to the driveshaft originally for those couple of days without a carrier drop bracket or what could cause this? Need to tow my heavy trailer in a couple weeks and I want to resolve this.
