Ok, I'm sure I'm going to get some laughs out of this one, but I some quick help.
I just bought a 1985 f150 4x4 with dual fuel tanks. Where is the tank selector switch on this model? It is not where it was on my 1991 F150, atleast not where I thought it was (it has been 6 years since I had that truck).
ah thanks, guess I would have found it when I got around to detailing the interior. On the '91 I had it was on the left side next to the switch for the lights in a much more obvious posistion.
Nice, yeah I figured out the tilt. But I didn't even know I had washer yet. It is an XLT so I was expecting to find a few little "luxuries" here and there. I also has cruise control which doesn't currently work, but I wasn't expecting to have it on that late of a model anyway.
ok, here is another quick question (I'm going to have to break down and purchase an owners manual for this thing). There is a gage in the middle of the instrument panel. It looks like cross hairs on a radar screen. It doesn't appear to do anything, but it could have been disabled or the wiring could have gone out. What is this gage, if anything?
It's a filler plate and is where the tach would go if it were installed.
Search this forum's archives for instructions on inserting a factory tach there.
Thanks for the welcome Redneck. Yeah, I know I don't have too but I would like to have a tach on the truck. I honestly wish there was a way to put the speedometer where the tach should go and the tach where the speedometer currently is. Just shows you what that were worried about in the '80s I guess.
Yeah well what I would do if I was you would be to look in the junkyard for a full cluster. I got one with a tach for my truck for $5 and it was in great shape. Real easy plug and play. Just make sure its for a gas if your truck is gas or for a deisel if your truck is diesel.
yeah, probably would/maybe be easy, but the truck I just bought had an engine fire back in 2001 so I'm not sure what all wiring was replaced. But thanks for the advice on the junk yard, it will definitely be the way to go on a few of my projects.
other things people seem to miss are : twist the wiper switch **** for washer and pull the turn sig lever towards you for tilt (if you have tilt)
One other thing you may miss.( i drove mine for a year before I found it) is the delay wiper feature turns counter clocwise from off position and normal operation is clockwise from off..I was all set to replace old switch with new delay switch when found out already had delay.
Seeing how we are all doing confessions … I drove my F150 for 8 years before I figured out the bench seat back had a release to allow it to tip forward. Now I have a new place for storage in the cab.
That is what is great about this forum. It is a great place to find out about all the little things as well as getting technical advice from people that hopefully know what they are talking about.
