ok, i am at some point this week going to get my exhaust changed out from the y back. plan on leaving manifold and y alone and my q is, will going to 3" make a difference? guy at the muffler shop says that the only difference is the few dollars more in the price, will make no breathability difference since the feed size is not changing. I know i have a slight restriction in it as it is now from the cherry red spot about a foot past the y, and i am hearing a slight ticking noise from a hole that is begining. ok, i'll shut up now, 2.5 or 3?
I would go with 3" at the Y, not after or go with duals.
He is basically correct in the fact that it is already choked at the Y.
Cutting into the Y and custom fitting the 3" takes more time than mosts shops are willing spend. And I would go bigger than 3" if I was going to goto all that trouble.
With the N/A especially the less the restriction going in and coming out the better!
d, it looks like the pipe and muffler are original. it sat soaking in hurricane Ike for a day or so so there is no telling what may have washed into it
If you split the exhaust before the "Y" does everything improve? Like milage and power? Why would there be a red spot in JM's pipe?
im guessing way too much fuel if he is getting a red spot, thats not good at all.i would put a pyro on and turn the fuel down or slap a turbo in.but pyro asap!!!!it could be causing serious internal damage.
I'd have to imagine a 3" past the Y would be better. Think about it like a drain. ......Say you've got two 3" drains that dump into a 3" drain. If those two 3" drains were being filled to the max, and trying to efficiently flow through a single 3" drain, they would back up. However, if they dumped into a 5" drain, you would get rid of that water much quicker.
I think directly past the Y, right where the two dump, would really be the only way to go if you're looking for any difference. I'm thinking pretty soon, I'm gonna run 3" at the junction of the Y, ad a silencer, and just dump it out the side to save money. It will probably sound like a boat.

You would be wearing hearing aids in a short time!
The IDI is extremely noisy.

fh : )_~
lol ya i know!!!!i have it stright piped already.do you thing cutting off another 4 feet or so would make that big of difference.my exhaust comes out in front of the tire now.
If you cut out the cross oc=ver on a turbo motor you would have no boost. The crossover takes exaust from the drivers manifold to a colector that merges both into the up pipe that feeds the turbo.
Mines straight piped and if i roll the windows up i can barely hear the motor turn the radio on and cant hear the motor.
