I had the same sound out of my 351 a few years back. Turns out I sucked down a big chunk of carbon off one of the intake valves, made a horrible racket (deep, like rod knock). I disassembled the engine and only found it after sleeping on it for a night. The carbon chunk was in the quench area of the combustion chamber and being hit by the piston on every stroke. The associated piston had a witness mark on it. Running some ATF down the carb prolly would have fixed the problem without all that wrenching. Who'd have thunk it...
injector knock, can make similar sounds, I would pull the codes and if nothing while running compression tests take the injectors in to be tested. most places can test them in an hour or two..
