I'm really curious about this. I've seen on a couple occaisions where Philco products from I believe the 60's or 70's have a Ford symbol as part of their name badge. Did Ford own them? I've also seen older Fridigare appliances with the GM logo. Same deal here?
Guess I should have serached first. I found that Ford owned Philco from 1961 to 1974. http://www.philcoradio.com/history.htm Now that's some cool trivia I didn't know.
I still remember my father saying that the first TV they when he was a child was a Philco combintion stereo TV.
Since they were FORDS, I guess that's something else I should add to my list of collections
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 09-Nov-02 AT 08:15 PM (EST)]There was a big comsumer investigation where Ford was selling radios in their cars and trucks for hundreds of dollars. The investigators claimed they made the AM's for $9. and the AM/FM's for $24 and ripped off the public for almost 1000% mark-up.
Ford immediatey sold Ford/Philco which they owned.
I hope my memory is factual but I can't swear to it.
Anyone else want to chime in?
yeah, I remember Philco Ford TVs and radios in the 60s. I also remember Frigidaire and GM. Actually GM still owns Frigidaire I think. At least that is what the lable on my Chevy AC says.
