thanks for the welcome, just got a 67 F100 (previous owner of a 72 F100, 82 F150, 86 F150, 93 F150, 02 F150 and present owner of a 07 Fusion, gotta love those Fords) engine supposedly rebuilt and back together but out of the truck, need fuel pump and water pump and I see that the water pump is different between the 240 and 300, any way to tell without popping the head off?

The 1965/74 240 and the 1965/79 300 waterpump is the same...with one exception:
D5TZ8501A .. Waterpump
Fits: 1965/74 240 I-6 and 1965/79 LightDuty 300 I-6 / Fits: 1965/72 Galaxie/LTD with 240 I-6.
C5TZ8501C .. Waterpump
Fits: 1965/70 300 Heavy Duty engine only.
-----------------------------------------
The 300 pump used from 1980 thru 1996 is different than what was used 1965/79.
Any way to positively ID if motor is a 240 or a 300? VIN says truck came with a 240, guy before me had it advertised as a 300
You will need a helping hand to pull it off, but you might try removing one of the sparkplugs (all would make it easier) and poking a 6-8in. piece of white house wire into one of the bores. Place a finger on the end of the wire and rest a Sharpie on the manifold against the wire. Have a friend rotate the engine with a socket on the crankshaft nut a couple rounds and then measure the length of the mark on the wire.
Use the two numbers provided by Bill to determine which engine you actually have.
