Tranny Problems on 99 ranger
Hey Guys,
Im new to this forum. Of course I found it out of necessity.
Here's teh problem I'm having.
My girlfriend has a 99 Ranger 4 banger with the auto tranny.
It has about 60k miles and I do all the regular maintenance on it.
The tranny fluid and filter was changed at about 32K miles.
Just this morning as she left the house the truck wouldnt shift out of second gear. She also says that the ABS light kept coming on.
Since I wasnt there, I asked her to check the tranny fluid and to smell for any burning odors. The fluid checked out fine and nothing smelled like if it was burning. I had her unplug the + battery terminal to clear the comp. She restarted the truck and it still wont shift out of 2nd and the ABS light keeps coming on.
I have tried searching for info and all i can gather is that it is a crappy tranny.
What could be causing this? There isnt any grinding or any other weird noises, it just wont shift. She hasnt hit any puddles lately so I dont think it is the PCM.
I havent taken a look at it myself yet! Any help would be appreciated!

Okay, I have an update!
I went for a drive in the truck. The ABS light is on all the time and the speedometer doesnt work. The CEL isnt flashing on.
What's the relation between the two I really dont know!
There is no weird noise from the tranny either at idle or while driving.
The truck never gave any signs of tranny problems. She parked the truck last night and when she went to leave this morning is when it wouldnt shift!
If i start out on (D) I really cant tell if it shifts from first to second. If I manually start out in (1) then manually shift to (2) it shifts! But if I try to shift from (2) to (D) then it just revs and doesnt catch! I have to come to a complete stop in order to be able to start moving in (D). I checked the fluid and it seems to be kinda thinner than normal but I really cant tell at this point!
When daylight hits again then im going to try and check the fluid a little better and maybe get under the tranny to make sure nothing has come loose!

Tranny Problems on 99 ranger
I'd seriously suspect the RWAL sensor in the rear axle, or the wiring to it. Women drive over things. My girlfriend lost the coolant tank out of her old Honda. "Did you hear anything fall out? Did you run over anything?" "Maybe." I'd check to be sure.
