cooling system trouble
I found on here my 7.3 non turbo cooling system takes 8 gallons. I drained the original put in radiator flush and water ran for 30mins driving to warm up drained filled with just water to wash out drive 30mins drain. When I was running I had the heat running the hole time.
Then I filled with some coolant that is the cat ec-1 equivalent 50/50 mix. I Filled threw the radiator and only got in 5.5 gallons and put the other .5 in the reservoir, and idled the truck and it took a tiny bit more.
What did I do wrong and am I screwed? I dont want to damage anything. When I drained the water the last time it was clear.
Another thing I just noticed is even if my engine is cold my fan still runs is that normal?

Draining the radiator will still leave some in the block.
Your fan will always turn just should not be locked up until the motor is around 200 205 degrees with the engine dead can you turn the fan.

Ok thats how the fan is. Good to know.
Am I going to be ok with this coolent? I did not drain the block I thought it would all drain from the radiator being the lowest point. It says to on the bottle drain old coolent flush and put clean water in and drain and refill. Since I didnt get in the last 2 quarts it is probably mixed with water? But will that be ok with the SCAs and all of that? Or what should I do, I really dont want to drain the new coolant Iv got 65$ worth in there.

Ok ill pick up some test strips, any auto part store should carry them?
I dont need to worry about freeze Im in south fl and the coldest it gets here is about freezing once a year and I not going anywhere colder. But even with the coolent in im still protected well below freezing just maybe not to optimal conditions.
