Went to the trailer last week after leaving it on-site for the winter and found some signs of mice. But the worst was a squirrel that set up housekeeping in the basement of the unit. It had three separate staches of food and made a bathroom stuffed with paper towel to pee on. It was a very neat housekeeper but I'm not looking for tenants. I thought this new unit of ours was varmint proof but guess not The mouse poison did him in and luckily it died outside the trailer. I have now used expanding foam and left it with a good surrounding of moth ***** on the frame etc. as we are gone to San Diego for a few weeks. Don't believe that mice stay away from bounce sheets. They pee on them. The squirrel must have come in thru the battery compartment. I didn't notice the nice round hole in the bottom of the area. I am going to put heavy, narrow screening over this and also the large openings under the tanks. Probably over-kill but I don't feel like spending another 2 days hauling everything out and scrubbing.

You think thats bad, try getting rid of a sugar ant infestation in a class C motor home!.......I have sprayed the parking area, the outside and underside, set off numerous bug bombs inside, and they still manage to survive!......This time I am going to open every cabinet, drawer, throw a tarp over it and set off the whole box of bug bombs!........That will get em'!
They used to make a bug bomb, where you took the lid off, put some water in it and turned the bomb over and set it in the water. It caused some sort of chemical reaction that put out a toxic smoke.
They always worked much better than the ones that just sprayed sorta vapor/mostly droplets into the air. At least it seemed to me they did. I dunno if you can buy them any more.
Yeah Raid fumigator works great but only in confined spaces. And only for a few hours while the "guests" are at home.
Other wise you will need to either trap or repel the creatures.
With our travel trailer we had mice. Trapped as many as we could with snap traps baited with peanut butter. Then my wife put those Bounce laundry softener towels in the drawers. Seems to be the Bounce repels mice. We also occasionally used the fumigator.
A squireel my be tougher. Maybe a live trap and relocation? Or I think some nurseries sell a nicotine based repellant that keeps squirrels away. The modern Home Depot type places don't seem to carry it. You have to go to an old fashioned harware or nursery to find the nicotine.
Be careful with the bug bombs - read the box (no, really!). I seem to remember a report a few years back where someone was trying to get rid of roaches in their house and figured if one worked well, then a whole bunch of 'em would work better. Well end result, the house filled up with fumes, ignited (possibly spark from a water heater?) and the whole house was blown right off the foundation. Not sure if it actually got rid of the roaches.
This thread reminds me of the scene in the movie RV where Robin Williams is trying to get the raccoons out of the RV. Of course the other funny scene in that movie is the one where he needs to dump the tanks.
I found out that those spring-loaded RAT traps will kill an inquisitive squirrel - they too like peanut butter...had a family of rats living under the porch.... put 2 traps down there...got one rat and one squirrel. Broke its back. Rats just waiting until one rat got caught and then cleaned up the peanut butter.
