pretty new to the 429 460 ford series engine. I found a casting # on my heads and wondered if anyone could tell me anything on them. Wether they are a good head or just the average. the# isC9VEA and they are the bir 18mm plug hole too. any help appreiated!
they are not bad heads depending on what you want to do with them.
they are not top of the line factory performance heads, but they can with some work make pretty decent power.
they are 77cc chambers, 2.08" intake, 1.68(?) exhaust, screw in rocker studs, sled type rocker arms.
the biggest draw back on these heads are the exhaust ports. they are pretty restrictive. they are classed in the same group as the C8Ve and D0VE heads as the 3 of them are pretty well identical as far as port layout and valve sizes.
another minor drawback is that they have pretty small chambers (smallest of all factory heads) so selecting the correct piston to get the compression down to a pump gas friendly range is more of a challenge as you usually end up with pretty big dished pistons. the factory rating was 10.5:1 with these heads so even running 93 octane gas is iffy.
they are a decent starting point for a decent street engine.
thanks for all of the info. The 460 was all rebuilt .030 over ,heads all redone with everything new but i dont know which piston he put in it . It runs real good, very peppy. Just waiting to do some more work on the truck and put it on the road.
