Welcome to FTE Killzone001! Look for a low mileage 4.6 from any 1997 or later F-150 or Expedition up to 2004. The later the better. Be sure to get the flywheel with it as some may be different than yours as far as the number of bolts for the crank shaft. Good luck!

Any bone yard can tell you what engines will work. The 4.6L 2V engine has been used in these trucks in all of the models that this particular forum covers. It was also used in the Expedition for similar model years. 2004 and later models use the same engine as well even up to and including the 2009 2V model if I am not mistaken. This has been the base model V-8 engine used in these trucks and they should be plentiful in the bone yards. Good luck!
While the engines are the same (4.6 2 valve), I'd still stay very close to your year as there can be minor wiring differences. If it was me in your shoes, I'd try to get the same model year and even try to get one from a similarly equiped vehicle to avoid problems.
That's what I would do personally. They aren't all identical because the 4.6s in the early years of this style (97 and 98 I think) didn't used coil on plugs and had non PI heads. That's just one example.
well because the motors around here are high miliage and the motor i had i didnt trust rebuilding it i just went to ford and got a new one to start with but i might find a junkyard one to tow with and see what kind of numbers i could get out of it.. i love HP.

Mike
99 still had non PI heads and used two separate coil packs for the 4.6l
