My 99 F250 is getting horrible fuel mileage. It has K&N intake and 5" straight pipe. I already had my cps replaced. I figured on my own that I'm only getting about 8mpg. I have heard of people getting 15-16 stock. Does anyone have any ideas of why this is happening?
Many different factors can be the cause of low fuel mileage. I would start by getting rid of the K&N. They let to much dust in and can cause serious engine damage. Check for thigs like boost leaks leaking up pipes etc.
What size tires are on the truck. The larger the tire the lower you MPG will be. Also, what gearing are you running? I would also clean out your EBP sensor and tube from any soot. This has been know to mess up fuel mileage. When was the last time you changed your fuel filter and oil?
Is the truck running normal, no engine lights? Any white or blue smoke? Im sure you checked for visible fuel leaks at the line and tank. Check for fuel in your oil. I have also seen split injector tips causeing poor fuel milage with no performance lose or any issues. Sometimes you can even have ECM issues and be getting poor mileage too. I only saw that 1 time and that was on a 444e not a powerstorke. That was a warrenty nightmare and was not easy to figure out
Thanks for the advice guys. I never knew that K&N was so junky. The previous owner put it on. I jus recently changed my oil and fuel filter. My boost gauge is reading normal but I'll run a test anyways. The tires are normal stock tires (for right now) and I'm not positive on the gearing. What intake system do you guys reccomend?? And where should I get it from?
You should have 3.73 gears with an f-250. if it's a short box. I believe some long boxes came with the 4.10's. Get your intake changed and then it should be all about driver inputs.
also, do you run any type of fuel treatment in your truck? how many miles do you have? i am just thinking you may have some debris around your injectors or something, just a thought.
I would check for boost leaks. Look at all of your boots and see if there is any oil coming out. Also make sure the clamps are not loose. Don't forget to check the plenum boots. Also check your up-pipes to see if they might be leaking.
