Had this problem before at 15,000. Ford replaced the Cap and put a new decal on the bottle lowering the full line. Now have 20,300 and problem has reappeared. Coolant Level in the bottle is below the min. line but far from empty. Was flat towing my jeep (4300 lbs) from sea level to 8,000 ft. Truck didn't even know it was back there. No other symptons. Am I at the start of the dreaded HG saga? Taking it to the dealer in the morning.
mine puked after a turbo was replaced from seeing 45+ psi(all stock including tuning except for gauges and exhaust). It then got a egr cooler and head gaskets. The dealer did put in aftermarket headstuds for me at 25k. I however have the same puking only when towing on mostly hard pulls and now have 52k. It is currently getting oil cooler and a egr cooler. The oil cooler fills with the sand on the coolant side of cooler from casting sand for the coolant passages. the flow then goes to the egr cooler and the lack of flow gets that coolant in the egr cooler to flash boil and creat puking. I highly suggest a bypass coolant filter for it after you take it in. People are still seeing quite a bit of sand in their systems after the dealer determines what the issue is. Thats what I'm doing to mine as soon as I get it back
Only mods are a leveling kit and 285x70x16 rims and tires.
Not puking as much as it did the first time at 15,000. Have towed the Jeep numerous times both flat and on an 18ft trailer without incident since then.
i was going to ask the same question. i have sct flash tune, mbrp turbo back exhaust. i was towing my trailer (12k or so) and the coolant is puking everywhere. every 250 miles or so i have to add about a gallon of coolant. the engine sometimes tries to over heat sometimes on small incline and sometimes on relatively flat runs (seems to random). also does i get this random sound like a aux motor or something kicks in for a short time then kicks out (also at random times) this noise seems to have increased slightly since the coolant started puking. ford has already done the new cap and sticker on the degas bottle. the truck has about 34K on it know.
A buddy of mine had the same problem on his '05. He was driving down the freeway when white smoke started billowing out of his tailpipe. It puked out some coolant, but he managed to make it to the dealer before his engine grenaded. They replaced his EGR cooler and EGR valve and it never happened again, even while stacked with a tuner and chip.
My neighbor had an '04 Excursion that did the same thing bone stock, the morons he took it to kept replacing the radiator and changing out the degas bottle; not knowing the whole time it was the EGR cooler filling with coolant and failing. Needlees to say, he sold his otherwise perfectly running truck for a 2008 F250. If I had the cash laying around, it would have been mine....
Ford called and said they performed the required pressure test and visual inspection and could not find any thing that required replacement of parts. The service writer was pretty frank with me and said that based on the number of years he has been dealing with the 6.0 that I would be back again with a simular problem unfortunately. But his hands were tied because he would have to send the parts back to ford if he started replacing components that didn't fail their test procedure or visual inspection. ???
Well I'll just have to keep looking after every long trip and if it rears its ugly head again Ford get it back.
Only thing makes me mad about the whole thing it that the truck runs real good and I hate to have something go south if I'm on one of my towing trips up North or in Utah. Well enough with my problem.
Everyone have a nice day.

Even if your headgaskets go you won't be dead on the side of the road is the good news.
I might even drive a little harder than normal and see if you can pop em so you can get them fixed the right way.
Got the area around the degas bottle cleaned up as if nothing happened. Will be able to see if it does it again as I'm almost sure it will. So much for Ford clearing up the problems on the earlier models. I guess just because one has the latest version doesn't mean you are home free. Got a few more years on the warranty.

Yeah, but make sure everything is documented with Ford. My neighbor kept having the same issues with his '04 and the local shop and dealer couldn't figure things out. When the headgaskets finally blew, Ford couldn't say anything because it was documented that he had mentioned it over and over while under warranty, needless to say that's why he got an awesome deal on his '08.
My 2004 leaked when I ran the heater or defroster. I was told it's the heater core. I haven't run the heat or defroster and the leak stopped. Does anyone know if this could pose any problems for the engine in the neat future? I could take it in but I'd like to wait and save money up for the repair. Maybe in the fall when I'll need the heater.

i think i'd change the heater core real soon if i were you. you could probably do it yourself relatively easily.
