I was low on fuel today, the low fuel light came on and I drove about 10 more miles and filled up. It took 36 gallons. But my fuel guage is still between E and 1/4 tank and my low fuel light is still lit. The trip computer tell me that I have 498 mile until empty, but the guage is not repsonding. Any ideas? THANKS!
How long has it been since you filled up, Only ten miles? My Focus and Truck to the same thing. They take forever to go up.. I went up to Moms last week. I filled up down the street from my house.. 1 mile.. I was almost empty.. It took nearly 25 minutes for it to read full.
The thing is, i think it is slower when we fill up while the vehicles are running. If you turn them off it seems like they come up quicker.. Might just be me loosing my mind in the long run.
Or you may be looking for a bad ground or dropping the tank.
I went out this AM and drove to work, the low fuel light was off, but the gauge was still down between E and 1/4 tank. Seems like this is a common issue, I will just wait and see.
Happened to me once not too long ago. Ran the tank almost dry then filled it. Still read "E". A couple of days later, still on "E". Was going to set aside some time to beat my head against a wall and then drop my tank until...third morning I came out, started it up and it read normally.
The level sensing unit (inside the tank) is lubricated by the fuel/gas sloshing around in there. If you drop too low in level, you uncover the unit and it no longer receives lubrication. These units are very sensitive and can be damaged easily. I try to keep at least 1/4 tank in there for that and other reasons (the more static head I can provide for my fuel pump, the less it has to work and the longer it will last).
You might just have a sticky unit because you ran the tank (almost) down to the last drop. Give it a few days before you start to worry.
