my 93 factory idi turbo sends out a fair cloud of blue smoke when starting. It smells alot like diesel. Would this be a sign of a leeky injector? The truck also uses alot of oil, I cleaned the cdr, but no change, it looks like it is the original with 330,000 km on the motor. I ordered a new cdr so I hope that this slows the oil useage. But I fear that the motor may be just worn out.
Does a worn engine use oil like a gas on does?
Does it start "rough" if so then glow plugs might be going south. And what do you consider a lot of oil? Diesels are noted to use oil especially older ones like ours. Mine uses around 1-2 qts per oil change.
Could be valve seals smoking at start up this does not usually use a lot of oil though.
Have you cleaned your cdr every couple oil changes?
I'm thinking your around 200,000 miles properly maintained you should have a few more good miles to go.
no i am talking about 3-4 gallons before oil change.... looked today seems to be alot of oil in the intake. could be the glow plugs, I think that I might replace the injectors anyways.
Yea I know but from what I gather everything working like it should it heats the rear cylinders more than the others. Seems like I read one time that was one of the problems associated with head gasket failures in the na engines. I'm with you it seems like a lot of oil.
Yep Cat claims they tested the 3406s at 4000 rpm but I seen one run way faster than that before the pistons and the valves got real friendly, makes you want to run.
My moms dad is missing half his face from a clutch disc on a run away, he was lucky to have lived from the injury let alone the medical technologies at the time.
I jumped in the cab to try to shut it down when the rpm started climbing when I couldn't killit I decided I was in the safest place.
Saw a 671 that a guy laid over one time and didn't kill it by the time I got there I decided it wasn't worth trying to get to the emergency kill on it.
