This is another Oil leak question. I am leaking 1 drop every 3.5 seconds ( a small stream) from the back of my 2003 6.0 liter with 55,000 miles. It is comming from the back left, (driver side) clear up from the top so I can not see it from underneath looking up, but clear to the back so I can not see it from above. It is not the valve cover gasket, nor the turbo oil return tube, none of the injectores are leaking. What is in that back upper left corner of the motor that can leak like that? ARRRGG!#@*
Please dont say to just take it to the dealer cause it is not covered under there warranty, this rig was stolen and so branded with a salvage title. (NO WARRANTY)
'03's had the ICP sensor under the turbo and they are known to leak, but usually you have other issues when it does. The other thing you might do is use a small mirror to get a view of the back of the motor. The only other thing on the drivers back corner is the HPOP and I'm not sure where that would leak from, but I suppose it could.
Thanks Parts man, I will check that tomorow, I did just do some work to the turbo removed cleaned it and put it back in. maybe I bumped something down there, it is a tight fit. I don't remember seeing a sensor but then again I was not looking for it.
Bye the way what is a ICP Sensor? What is a HPOP? Is the ICP right under the turbo? or a little to one side or front? Thanks for your help I really appreciate it. I will let you know what I find.
HI Bob, it is the ICP Sensor. it sits right behind the turbo on top of the engine, the oil runs across the top to the left and runs down the back barely missing the exhaust manifold, you may still smell some burning oil on that. You have to pull the Turbo to replace it. That sensor uses high oil presure to regulate the Injectors. It is a common enough problem for the dealer ship to keep that part in stock. What happens is the epoxy filled top of the sensor cracks from heat and oil presure and what ever other reasons (poor design) and leaks like crazy... The Sensor is cheap, less then 50.00 but the install is expensive, maybe $350.00 It is very hard to replace, recomend you let the dealership do it unless you are a good wrencher... and you like impossibly tight and frustrating jobs. Dont bother looking you can not see the sensor not even with mirrors, it has a turbo exhaust pipe right on top of it... Hence all the heat.
There is no need to remove the turbo. Some people change it from by removing the de-gas bottle and FICM,with a stubby ratchet. Some from below by removing a heat shield on the back of the motor.I have figured a way to make use of my skinny arms by reaching it with a swivel and two extensions from just in front of the fire wall.If you look up through the back of the block you can see the pigtail.I wrote a detailed post some time ago that is in here somewhere.
