pmelah, thats cool. Sounds like you had the chance to see a lot of both countries. All the americans I met here are very nice and seem to like it up here. I still meet the odd canadian that seems to think that americans are somehow more arrogant. Takes a lot for me not to punch them out.
I have been all over alberta and bc a little sk and all across the yukon love the people everywhere especially the yukon.
Absolutely love the country in northern alberta and all of bc and yukon but would not want to live to close to the vancouver area I really like from prince george west and any where on the cassier or the yukon I could live there and be totally happy.
Ok that was a long read I recent, well not so recently but last i dove my truck befor the 7.3 gave me the finger, I a simmilar problem my torque converter started hunting on my it shifted fine except for the converter, fiple checked out good re pinned the fiple conector because the wires leading to it had been pierced by some hack at some point, speedo and tach worked flawlesly, no green fuzies in any conectors. Well i put my new motor in and its gone. I'm going to tell you what fixed it even though it will make me look like a jack @$# but I know how frustraighting it was for me trying to find the problem. In my infinite wisdom, when my driver side battery shorted a chell and i had no money for a new one I unhooked the ground from it to save my alternator and the other battery. Well when I was putting the 6.9 in i relised all the grounds for the chasise came off that cable, yes they were still grounded to the block then to the other negaive cable but some fancy electronic modules like the ECM for an E4OD need a clean ground direct to the battery. So i would hihgly recomend checking all your ground conections, especialy the left battery post, and also check all the conectors in the trans harness, the FIPLS conector and the conector for the engine harness to the cab harness.
My trans never overheated because when the converter started hunting I flipped my switch and locked it up.
But especialy on mega cabs truck what David said about the higher line presure and the converter lock up piston is also a very real posibility and PMELAH when you draind the black trans fluid was it gritty? Also for the not going into revers right avay it could also be a worn line presure modulator Sonnax makes an upgraded line presure modulator with rubber orings and is very simple to install, it can also be caused by a worn boost valve Sonnax also has a replacement for that but it is slightly more dificult to replace you have to pull the trans converter and the pump to install it. Both of these are very common in high millage E4ODs.
Sorry fo the monster post but I felt left out joining the thread so late.
Aww, Whats up. I Must have missed your post somehow. Hows things going. I have thought about the rebuild, but I atleast want to try to pinpoint the main culprit so this don't happen again. Also, If I can pinpoint the problem, I can post my results along with yalls which could verywell help someone else in the future.
And your right, I hate working on trannys and non the less I hate the smell of tranny fluid....It always means troubble for me weather its my broken belt ripping off my cooler lines, road debree ripping off my cooler lines, cooler line cracking and dumping fluid all over, overheating tranny dumping fluid. I have put more fluid in this thing and ran it out so many times and overheated a few times that Im suppised it still moves. Im glad I havn't had a tow bill yet.
Don't let it suprise you that I keep a coupple gallons of tranny fluid in the bed.
sounds really similar.about 2 weeks ago my tensioner broke and the belt took out my tranny lines and the starter wiring and shredded the belt.i really hate when one issue causes 3 others.
Thanks dave again for all the input. I know a local shop that does alot of tranny work and Ill run to them and see what they would charge on the torque converter. I like the idea of that. I did find a tripple lockup billit converter online for $400 but as for quality, I don't know how well it truly is.
thanks guys for all the help i just took the 250 for a little joy ride had to take my 17 yr old to his girlfriends house that was fun no problems except for reverse taking so long to engage but i thnk yall are right sticky valve and george the fluid was not grity. David85 i just got one of those reputation things from fte on you i put in a good comment you have been very helpful and the info very informative again thanks to all of yall i am learning a lot about my 7.3 turbo IDI and E4OD
George, I have checked all my wiring. I was having starting problems when I first bought this truck and all my grounds are clean and tight with no corrosion on them.
I like the idea of the switch to turn on the converter lock permanently. I also noticed everytime I let off the throttle, when I just touch it again, it will kick out and then back in again. I wonder why they do this cause my chevy does the exact same thing.
rubejosh, And that was a brand new belt I put on it at the parts store. Luckelly I had the old belt, stuck it back on and drove it a coupple thousand miles before getting another belt. Went ahead and replaced the tensioner as well. When that happend, I was in the middle of the toll gate booth and a cop had to push me with his squad car out of the way. He pushed me about a mile right up to my apartment. What a nice guy. It was like free wrecker service.
Just making the best out of what we pay. I think it was a dodge charger squad car and man i bet he pushed my truck about as fast as it would accelerat by itself!!! I hope his trannys tougher than mine!!
