I want to install a 2 DIN stereo in my 2000 Excursion. Will that fit? Do I need to purchase a install kit in addition to the stereo? Also, any special instructions on removing the dash? Is there a specific sequence to dash removal I guess. I've only done stereo's in Old LandCruisers so I'm not familiar with the plastic dash. Here is a link to the stereo in question: PIONEER AVIC-F900BT CAR GPS/SATELLITE NAVIGATION SYSTEM - eBay (item 330323335319 end time May-18-09 13:48:19 PDT)
Thanks Monsta. I've read many of your posts and they've helped a lot. Another question, is there any center consoles that are better designed? Meaning, the cup holders on mine are quite shallow so my drinks tip over easily and the general design of the whole console just does not hit the mark. There has to be a better designed one out there. Thanks again for all the help. Cheers from Phoenix.

Later builds of the 2000 MY and all Excursions till the end had deeper cupholders.
Mine was one of the first Excursions with a build date of 1/12/00 and it also has the shallow cupholders, so yours was probably built at the very end of 99 or early 2000.
What you could do is simply replace your current cupholder with the updated deeper cupholder.
If you decide to get rid of the entire console you could look into the consoles from the current SuperDuty as has been mentioned. You will lose your rear radio controls as well as the rear cupholders though.
It helps if you throw the shifter in 1 (on the PRND21 thing) and pull the steering wheel all the way down. Then yank, the radio out, and kind of gently yank the dash. Just don't pull too hard because there are a bunch of wires that need to be unhooked.
If you value your rear seat radio controls and cupholders that are currently on your center console, you might want to reconsider switching to the new center consoles as these new consoles do not have them.
The new 08 consoles have cupholders in the back. The rear audio controls only need a square opening. There's more than enough room towards the bottom to put one in.
Da X-man, I believe there is a picture here somewhere in the forum. But once you pull it off it's pretty evident. A rotary zip tool is all that is needed to trim off some of the excess. I was going to pu tin a doubel DIN system so I researched it all but changed my mind about doing it at the last moment. I used the money for something else...

Totally forgot about the cupholders.
Now that I think about it, it wouldn't be to hard, as Monsta mentioned, to put in the radio controls.
Yeah...kinda wished I would have waited as my 08 console doesn't but I put some of these on the side right where the front seat belt retracts in to. Double sided tape and they'll hold a giant Slurpee.
