rear bearings

rear bearings
Ive looked in two different manuals. One says to repack the wheel bearings with grease, the other said not to, that they are lubed from the diff oil.When I removed the bearings they were not packed with grease,only had gear lube on them. Thoughts?

I would repack them. It will help until they get full lubed by the gear oil. Here is a good link that discusses this.

Edit: seems in the link I gave most are not in favor of repacking the bearings but pre-lubing them with gear oil. Probably a better idea now that I think about it.

The spec for my 2001 F350 SRW states to pack the bearings with grease (Premium Long-Life Grease XG-I-C or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESA-MlC75-B) and to put an of ounces of axle lube in hub cavity. Also coat the spindle with axle grease as well prior to re-installing the hub.
