I own a 26ft 5th have been pulling it with a GM 6 LT gas. I am going to go to a diesel have never owned one don't know if I should go Ford or Gm. Looking for some help as to which pulls better, gas mileage,or anything anyone can help me with thanks.
Ford is made for the job. Frames/trans/eng all are beefier for the job. All of the big 3 are fairly comparable nowadays in terms of HP/TQ ratings.
But you want something that is stocky/stout for pulling and that is where Ford is built for the job.
What do you see the most of at construction sites? Go to the local camping locations and drive thru the sites and see what everyone or the majority are driving-Ford. The bigger the RV will usually be the Ford.
I know on the older dmax pre dpf they were probably going to get better milage. The chevy is a few thousand pounds less and has the front steering of a s10. I have always had chevys. I love my f250. I would have bought a chevy if it was a solid axle.
The engine, no don't overlook that. However, you'll have to overlook the plastic enterior, the auto trans that isn't worth crap, and the chasis that doesn't seem to hold up after 3 yrs.

I'm a Ford man too, but that's obvious. If you want an unbiased opinion, you'll need to go to a mechanic that works on all 3 diesels. Here, you'll get 99% Ford answers. Besides what everybody else said, consider the following:
Good chance Chrysler/Plymouth/Dodge is belly up in a year and sells of what it can and then cans the rest
Chevy is probably going to go bankrupt and the federal government will own OVER 50% of GM (although they SAY they don't want to run the company, they just want somebody on the board of directors to keep tabs on everything). Couple that with the fact that GM will Be Chevrolet and Cadillac by the end of the year along with closing down over 1,000 dealerships and I'll let you come to a conclusion on what kind of warranty it will have when you buy it.
Ford. No bailout money. Still independent and going strong. And they build a great truck!
