A few months ago i got a 2001 F-350 7.3L and due to a lack of work i have been able to spend some time under the truck and have found a few things that i'm curious about.
this plastic ring is just laying on top of the front axel on both sides, is this something i should be concerned about?
Not really. It is a dust seal and everyone that I have seen looks just like yours. I replaced mine when I did the ball joints, and it lasted about 6 months before it popped out again. I just stopped worrying about them.
Ditto, I replaced my U&L balljoints and put new seals on and from what I see they wont last long the way they are designed. Not a better idea by ford!If you doo alot od driving in teh mud you might worry. I just make it a point to wash the area real good with a hose or pressure washer after mudding.
