On start, will sometimes have a foghorn type sound. A rev will make it go away, but not always. Temperature doesn't seem to have a big affect because it will make the same noise at a stoplight in 85 degree heat. It's not a belt or bearing for sure. Sounds more like it's in the air, power steering, brakes, etc. Any suggestions?
O'K, was making the noise again today. On idle, put my hand on the plastic cover on the intake. Had a rapid, pulsating vibration which is odviously making the noise. Sound like air or fluid running through a diaphragm or something like that. Gave it some gas, noise gone, vibration gone, running smooth as silk.
Could it be a bad Idle Air Control Valve? Seems like it would run rough on idle if that were true. The motor runs fine, but just occasionally makes the sound and has that vibration.
Boy, I said boy. There is a TSB about a whistle in the earlier mod motors, you might start there. I'm not familiar with the v10's intake, but there are probably baffles and such that are there to reduce noises, one's probably loose and creating a harmonic vibration when the conditions are right.
First check to make sure the rubber grommet under the MAF sensor is in fully. Reach under your air intake and feel the rubber insert oval.
There was an update to the 1/2" hose that runs across the manifold and connects to the air intake assy. near the aluminum air intake. The new one has a different bend in it but loosening the clamp and giving it a small twist changed the shape & harmonics so the groan went away. We had a few trucks here at work that had the same gremlin.
My wife just came home and explained this noise that was happening and she prayed it would recreate itself when I was there. It did, and it sounded just like a FOGHORN.
I haved a K&N filter in mine with no other mod to the air intake system. It is not a constant sound but it does come and go at random.
I have 215k on the beast and sadly things are starting to happen....Up until this point I have only had to change out an alternator.
I will try the above and let you all know what the result is.
Well...still have the sound and it is actually choking the engine....If I disconnect a hose off of the airflow or undo theclamp to get to the AIR FILTER...the engine struggles and then dies ...I am on the road on vacation...bad timing...any suggestions are greatly appreciated...the top of the two hoses about halfway down from the air filter....the top one winds around to the top/back of the engine...What is the Silver valve that it connects to?
Hopefully someone will see this tonight....otherwise I think I will have to hit the Ford place tomorrow.
