Torqe Converter c-4

I am working on putting my freshly re-built engine in my truck. When I pulled the engine out I pulled the transmission out with it for ease of installation (so much for that plan). In the process of separating the engine and tranny, the torque converter ended up sliding out. I thought I got it pushed all the way back in, but when I tried to put the engine and tranny back together and they absolutely will not come together all the way. I am able to wiggle my TC up and down somewhat, so it seems like it should still be in further but I can't seem to get it to go any further. Anyone run into this problem and/or have any idea how to fix it?

Thank you for any help!

Do you have the ( T/C Drain Plug ) lined up with the ( Hole in the Flywheel ) that it has to

line up with ? The Drain Plug will keep it from pulling all the way up to the Flywheel !

P.S. did you change your crank, because if a different CrankShaft was used if might

have a ( Bushing ) in the rear of the Crank? Just a Shot in the Dark!

Sounds like a common problem of not getting the torque converter fully seated into the transmission. After it seems to be seated, continue to wiggle it up and down as well as side to side while turning it slightly. It should go back another "clunk". If you can get your fingers between the bell housing and the torque converter, it is NOT fully seated. If that doesn't work, check to be sure that the front shaft of the transmission is fully seated. It will pull out and push in but has to "seat" properly to be all the way in. If not seated, it will prevent the TC from seating properly.

Turns out my input shat somehow got jammed into the torque converter. It was giving me some hard shifts a while back so it seems like maybe it just got misaligned. Got replace the converter cuz the teeth one one side are toast. Thankfully the shaft was still in good shape. ANybody know a good place to find a torque converter for a 1970 C-4, preferably locally (I'm in glendale, AZ)
