also what is the diiference between the rotors for the 3800lb, 4600, and 8500+ lbs axles? There are only two stores in the four county area that has the 4600 lb rotors, and the ones that don't have it in stock also don't have it their warehouses either. I have to order it from the factory if i want it cheaper than the two stores that currently have it.
You get to tear the whole thing apart... rotors are installed from the back side of the hub. Wheel studs are pressed into the rotor- careful removing them so you don't booger up the threads.
The axle rating will be on the tag on the driver door. The rotor, hub and wheel studs come as a complete unit from Motorcraft. BRR4 is the part number. Go to the Motorcraft website and look up your truck. All you will need as far as part numbers are there.
yeah i found a site that had a write-up with a diagram. it is going to be a "fun" project tomorrow.
As long as you're that far into it now would be a good time to replace or at least repack the spindle bearings. Just 5 more nuts and you can separate the spindle from the knuckle to get at the bearing.
at the parts store, the computer said that there were three different rotors offered for the different axle ratings. the 3800 lb and 4600 lb rotors were the same price but the 8500+ lb were more than twice the price. the guy at one store said that he thought that the 8500+ where thicker, but he wasn't sure. they were all for 4x4.
The part number I listed in your other thread is the correct rotor for my 97 cross referenced back to a 96 4X4. There are some differences with other parts involved depending on which hubs you have. Manual or automatic. Mine are manual. I wouldn't be to concerned about the different rotors. The 4600 is the one you need. Check online at O'Reilly's and Motorcraft and cross reference. I will say that I was given the wrong parts first time around. 4X2 rotors and bearings. It can be a challenge.
NAPA was one of the stores that had a 4600 lbs. rotor so do you thnk they'd have it right? The ford dealer here in town is a f-ing joke, everyone i know that has to take their truck or car in goes across the county to Ligonier.
When I order parts I give them the part numbers that I want. I never trust them. Do you r research and tell them what you need. That's the only way to know what our going to get.
