Ok, I've got a 74 460 in my 71 SWB. I would really like to take out my old leaky C6 and put in the 5 speed I found in a 78 F600. Tomorrow I'm going to make sure it is behind a 460, but what about the rest. I will probably need to get some parts for this thing. How can I tell if it has OD? This is a 4x4 truck I'm pulling it from and it also has a high/low shifter in the cab as well. Does it work w/ the 4x4 or does it go w/ the tranny or what? I will post what ever numbers I find on the tranny but would really like some info on what to look for.
My f600 farm truck has a 2 speed eaton rear end W/ button on shifter. A 4wheel F600 must have been an electric co. truck or similar use. Also have a c700 farm truck with clark 5speed And 360 engine.
According to a truck Motor Manual, if it is stock, the engines offered in 78 for a F600 are; 300 or 330: Also a chance it might be a late 361 or 391 or an early 370 (first shows up in 79). Transmission could be; Fuller, Spicer, New Process or Clark or a HD 4sp. If you take the Vin # & the trans letter to your Ford parts man, he should be able to ID it for you. Hope this helps, Elliott
