Excursion Problems....Please Help

Hello Everyone,

I'm sure these are basic mechanical questions, but I want to make sure what I think is the problem is the problem.

Problem #1:
Really nasty jerk from 1st to 2nd gear.

Problem #2:
I know there is a leakage near my driver side rear, it's starting to smoke up when a lot of heat is accrued from driving a hot day or just driving in general.

Your inputs would be greatly appreciated. Please help me take care of my baby....

Sounds like the rear axle seal.
I'ts best to replace the seals on both sides. Check the condition of the axle bearings too.

Don't continue to drive without checking the rear axle fluid level.

More information required, what year, motor, and how far back is the leak.

+1 on what bubbasz1 said.

Have you check your tranny fluid level?

2001 Limited, V-10, 4 x 4.

I don't know how far back the leak is. When I had a chance there was residue on my inner rim, slightly greasy. Checked the other rear wheel and no similar residue was found. If you need more info please let me know and thank you for all your help, much appreciated.

Only 2 fluids should be able to leak onto a rear wheel rim; brake fluid or 75W-140 from the axle.

They are very different, easy to tell one from the other. If you are losing enough of either to see smoke you need to fix it ASAP.
