Timing Chain or Tensioner Problem?
I'm going to be looking at a couple of 2002 Rangers this weekend but I understand there were some problems with the timing chain or tensioner on 2002 4.0's. They each have over 80,000 miles on them but I'd like to know if there's anyway to know if the problems been taken care of already?

If you don't here the rattle, then it's probably been fixed. The problem seemed mostly to occure around 40,000-60,000 miles. Of course, thats not carved into stone. There's really no way to tell unless PO knows. However, if you don't hear it, thats a good sign.

Was it a do-it-yourself fix or did you take it to a dealer? About how much did it cost?
