I was wondering if anybody has used walmart super tech oil. Is it as good as other name brands or not. I was wondering because I can get the rear diff. fluid for about 5 dollars cheaper a qt.
If you change often I wouldn't see a problem with it but if you like some miles on your oil and filters I would use a better brand. All oils must meet the requirements of the government and manufactures so I am sure it would work.
I've used it in the past (not on this truck) because it's cheap and it's oil. It used to be made by Shell, but I think someone else makes it now. I'm not sure about yours, but my rear diff requires synthetic and limited slip additive. You may want to check on that if you haven't already done so.
My walmart in town sells a full syn. 75-140 gear lube. It is $10.56 a quart. I just went to the dealer and got a price of $18 something a quart and I know valvoline at Advance is about $15 a qt. I already bought the additive from the dealer. I was just wondering what you guys thought about the syn. Super Tech 1000 and just adding the additive.
Their synthetic gear oil is suppose to be a good product. You can take a look at the website link below. The people on it are oil freaks, its a good source for oil info. Bob Is The Oil Guy - Powered by Motor Oil
The thought had crossed my mind to try it, but I love my truck a little too much to put something like that in it. My guess is that they don't put much r&d into their oil, thus it won't stand up to our engines for very long as a more expensive oil would.
If you have something just needs some oil in it, something that you don't plan on keeping for long or something like that, by all means go ahead. But with our engines expensive as they are, I would pay the extra money and know that my engine is getting oil that will stand up to it and not break down for atleast 5k miles.
The oil is produced by "Warren performance products" the makers of CAM2 lubricants. The super-tech full synthetic motor oil is essentially the same as "CAM2 super-synthetic".
Some people are saying "you get what you pay for" but in the end, this is truly a good oil. I have a ford escort that has over 200k on it now that has had nothing but super tech in it from day one. The engine is clean inside ( I had to replace a valve cover gasket and the oil pan a while back) and runs like it did with 50k miles on it.
The next thing they will say is that it has a "paraffin base" that is a bad lubricant for engines. Little do they know, thier Motorcraft semi-syn's and Mobil-1's also contain paraffin. AS ALL SYNTHETIC MOTOR OILS DO.
