need help!

ive got a 1991 ranger xlt 4.0l 4wd. its been not wanting to come out of 4wd, so i had the bright idea to remove the electric shift motor onthe transfer case, and check it out. as soon as i pulled it out i knew i was screwed. the springs behind the brushes popped out, now i cant find a way to hold the springs/brushes in place in order to slide the motor+housing back on. im thinking that the whole motor and shift control sensor will have to come out in order to get enough access to reassemble, but im afraid to start undoing anything else, till i get more info.any help would be greatly appreciated.
