I just bought some used tires and rims and it really shows how poorly my tires are aligned. When the driver's side wheel is straight with the body the passenger wheel is turned in (as if you were making a mild left turn). I want to adjust the alignment before driving it to a shop to have it done professionally.
My question is: After looking under the truck, in order to extend the tie rod, is all that I have to do is loosen to two bolts/nuts on the bands around the tie rod adjustment sleeve and then spin it in the apropriate direction??
Is it easier to do with the wheel jacked up or will it still adjust with some force while the wheel is on the ground? I would rather have it on the ground so I can get a good look at the angle of the tire.
Thanks,
Jack it up, Spin each wheel and take a pencil or marker and scribe a line all the way around the tire... Put it back on the ground and measure front and rear on the lines and adjust accordingly. Measure at the same point above ground.
