Anyone attach carpet to the back wall of their cab? I traded a hammock for carpet that was long enough for an extended cab. I'm thinking of folding the extra lenght up the rear wall of my standard cab, but I need advice on how to attach it. Thanks for your help!
On the rear wall I first stuck on a layer of carpet underlay, the I got some cardboard that is meant to be used for door trim panels and glued it on top of that. I used the underlay up to the end of the ribbed panel and the cardboard up to the first lip in the steel panel and around to the door rubbers. The carpet is stuck to the cardboard so it is nice and flat and I continued it up to the window rubber. No need for a trim piece as it tucks nicely under the window rubber if you do it right.
You should be able to get contact adhesive from an auto trimmer supplies store.
Check with Uncle Stosh..He got me a like-new original carpet from one of his "HIDDEN TREASURE SCRAPYARDS"......If he doesn't have it...He can get it....
Thanks for everyone's advice! After reading, I thought I would check out the local salvage yards. I think I found most of the pieces I need (B pillars, headliner trim, under rear window trim, headliner, a nicer cab light with extra switches for map reading, visors, etc.). Unfortunately, the trim and pillars are kind of green instead of gray. But for $20, I figured that I could try to cleam them up and re-paint them gray. The metal pieces I could spray paint, but any suggestions on how to paint the vinyl? Also, the headliner cloth is faded, so any ideas on how to restore would be appreciated. Thanks!
Yes, I also salvaged the A-pillar trim and the metal trim above the doors. I'll check into the SEM 3-step vinyl paint. Good idea on the head liner replacement. Thanks!
