There is currently an F-2 on that auction site that appears to have an original stakebed with spare tire installed. The interesting picture is this one:
I still haven't seen a picture of the stock mounting for the spare tire in flatbeds like this. Is this the way they were from the factory?
I was assuming there was some actual hardware, like a bracket, holding the tire in under the bed. My bed has the cut away brace, and rear bracket which bolts directly to frame like this. Does the tire simply slide in like in the picture? My bed didn't have any kind of platform for the tire to sit on.
I too have been trying to find better information on the flat bed spare tire carrier. A friend sent me these pictures which add to the understanding. Seems that no one has a restored or original F-2/3 flat bed with an intact carrier. Stu

A friend here locally has a 48 f3 original stakebed and it has the same tire holddown bracket. There are some wooden blockes that sort of hold the tire in position and the tire just rests on the frame rail and cross member.
I should have taken pictures. I will next time im there.
Those are your pics Josh, I just didn't name you as the friend I got them from. Stu
I thought i recognized them!
Im still searching for another 8 foot stakebed. since the one above is not quite as advertised.
Ive found three more f2 f3 trucks but all have the pickup bed with fenders.
Ive got one more place to look
in hopes of finding something soon.

Ok, nice. I had this bracket and I thought it might be spare related but was unsure. That is much simpler than I thought the bracket would be. Might have the bolt lying around but not sure yet. Don't think these oversized tires will work with the stock bracket, but I considered going back to regular tires anyway.
You have added greatly to our understanding of this. It's amazing that a 7.50-16 LT tire won't fit the bracket, meaning there's no hope then that a 7.50-17 LT would fit. And for those few of us with M-Hs, the added challenge being that the dished wheel would never fit between the bed and the frame. Guess I'm gonna reassess. Thx. Stu

Glad I could return something to the forums after all the help I've received from here.
Once I get the bed back on, I can measure clearances. Is the stock bracket the only thing you were thinking wouldn't work? I'm not familiar with the "M-Hs" you mentioned.
There are a handful of us that have F-3 Marmon-Herrington AWD converted trucks that are fitted with 17" dually style deeply dished wheels, but used as singles on the rear. The added thickness of the tire, as you've demonstrated, combined with a 5" wheel offset would never fit the space as I'm seeing it. Means I give up on the idea of having a spare under my second project truck, or switch that project truck away from having a flatbed in favor of an Express bed. Planning way far ahead! Stu
Hi all, I am new to this forum. I am looking for a script stake bed that I can restore for my 1950 F2. Can someone tell me what year stake beds are compatible with my truck?
Thanks for all the knowledge shared on this site. I hope I can pay it foward some day. Jim
Hey Jim.
Should be able to find them on 48 to 52 f2 and f3 trucks.
But i have seen a few in the past that were on 53 f250's and some older trucks as well.
Not sure what year they came factory after 53?
Of course someone could switch beds around over the years so its possible to find one on a wide range of trucks.
Btw welcome to fte.
I'm in Utah also. Sl county. Where are you located?
