I've got a guy I found online that has a 2000 F150 Automatic with the 4.2L V6 with 140k miles. He claims it gets 24MPG. I've had other similar year V6 F150's and never got over 20MPG. I want to call him on his bluff, but wondered if anyone had some advice. Thanks for your time!
A 2WD truck with cruise set at 55 mph all highway miles I'd say it could happen once but not on a regular basis. I think it's wishful thinking on his part.
Especially with wind at your back. A lot of people get 1 good mileage number out of one tank and then from then on that is the mileage they tout. It is definitely possible with all the right things coming together but I doubt you could get it every day in various conditions.
No cruise control! (24mpg gets less and less believable!) If I do happen to buy the truck (2000 F150 Work Truck 4.2L Auto) how much and how difficult would it be to add cruise control. Thanks for everyone's help!
Dont know about OEM cruise, but there are some aftermarket kits that are relatively cheap, and easy to install. Concerning the 24 MPG,I have serious doubts as you do. I love my 97 with the 4.2 automatic, but its never gotten over 19 mpg,and if one runs the Air Conditioning, youre lucky to get 16 average.
Think about it this way..this is a 4.2 in a Full size truck,Automatic on top of that. My old S-10 had a 4.3 in it,and IT never got more than 20...Not saying it isnt possible, but I drive like an old fart, and to get 24 mpg in mine,Id have to have a good tail wind, and going downhill all the time....
my 02 f150 got 20+ mpg on a regular basis
on one occasion I got 23.1mpg, driving from Iowa quad cities to Vandalia, Il, I was doing 65-70 all the way
on the return of that trip I was pulling a 17 foot aluminum boat and got 21.1 mpg.
I made that trip many times (only once with the boat) and I always got at least 20mpg.
during my normal to and from work driving I was getting 17-19 mpg, I would say I was averaging 18
I sure miss that truck, I traded it in on a 05 dodge ram, I've never got over 13 in the dodge (4.7l v8)
